The Kerala Hindus of Georgia (KHGA) proudly presents "Rhythms of Kerala" — a rare and mesmerizing opportunity to experience two of Kerala’s most cherished and traditional art forms performed live. This event is dedicated to bringing the authentic cultural soul of our homeland to the community in Georgia.
Created by the legendary poet Kalakkaththu Kunchan Nambiar, Ottanthullal is often called the "poor man's Kathakali." It combines dance, music, and social satire with vibrant makeup and costumes. The performer sings and acts simultaneously, engaging the audience with wit and rhythmic movements.
This is the indigenous classical music of Kerala that originated in the temples. Characterized by its slow, plain-note style and use of the 'Idakka' drum, it creates a deeply spiritual and meditative atmosphere that resonates with the soul of the devotee.
This initiative is part of KHGA's ongoing mission to keep the rich artistic legacy of Kerala alive in the hearts of the diaspora. By showcasing these traditional forms, we provide a platform for cultural exchange and ensure that our younger generation understands the depth and humor inherent in our ancestral arts.
This event is organized for the community to promote and celebrate Kerala's unique cultural identity.
We invite you to immerse yourself in the authentic sounds and sights of Kerala's rhythmic traditions. Stay tuned to our main page for more upcoming cultural initiatives.
